Susan Mac Cormac is a partner at global law firm Morrison & Foerster, where she leads the Social Enterprise and Impact Investing group and co-chairs the Clean Technology + Alternative Energy Group. She advises sustainable and renewable energy companies and investors on the intersection of fiduciary duties and environmental sustainability as well as Corporate Social Responsibility, and ESG disclosure. She has particular expertise on ensuring investments have positive impact – through new corporate forms, hybrids, alternative debt and equity instruments, and disclosure.
In 2015, the Financial Times named Ms. Mac Cormac the Most Innovative North American Lawyer for her work championing impact investing and social enterprise legal innovation. California Lawyer named her as an Attorney of the Year in 2016 for her innovative work in sustainability and impact investing, and previously in 2012 for effecting legislative change as co-chair of the California working group for the Social Purpose Corporation. She was a founding board member of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, is a member of the Board of Directors for Business for Social Responsibility, and member of the Ceres President’s Council and the Board of Earth Genome Project. Ms. Mac Cormac is also professor of social enterprise law at UC Berkeley School of Law.
