Speaker's Biography:

Ruth Finkelstein
Associate Director, Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center

Ruth Finkelstein is associate director of the Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center, which works to maximize productivity and quality of life by making all aspects of society work well for people of all ages. Finkelstein has more than 30 years’ experience in improving health for vulnerable populations. She directs the Age Smart Employer Awards, which recognize employers that encourage different generations to work together. Other projects include Exceeding Expectations, a digital narrative of 20 New Yorkers over 81 years old, and the Age Boom Academy, which trains journalists on aging issues. Finkelstein directed the Age Friendly NYC initiative, which in 2013 was named the Best Existing Age Friendly Initiative in the World. She was one of Next Avenue’s 2016 Influencers in Aging and Metropolis magazine’s Game Changers in 2012. Finkelstein is an assistant professor of health policy and management at the Mailman School of Public Health and director of ILC-USA. She holds a doctorate in health policy from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
