Speaker's Biography

Henri Dommel

Director, Financial Inclusion Practice Area, United Nations Capital Development Fund


Henri Dommel joined UNCDF as director of the Inclusive Finance Unit in 2007. He is responsible for leading the Unit's strategy in promoting inclusive financial sectors in LDCs. This includes the development of a range of market development diagnostics and tools as well as programs targeting specific access to finance "frontier" issues (i.e women and youth, access to clean energy, etc). He also contributes to mobilizing external partnerships and resource mobilization. Prior to joining UNCDF as director, Mr. Dommel spent six years as IFAD's (Int'l Fund for Agricultural Development) senior technical advisor of rural finance. Prior to IFAD, Mr. Dommel worked as programme manager at UNCDF from 1993 to 2001. Before entering the UN system, Mr. Dommel worked at Banque Paribas in New Delhi as well as in Paris at the bank's department for Africa and the Middle East. Mr. Dommel holds a master's degree in Int'l Affairs from the School of Advanced Int'l Studies at John's Hopkins University, and a degree from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques of Paris, France.
