Director, National Counterterrorism Center
Nicholas "Nick" Rasmussen was sworn in as director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) in December, 2014, following confirmation by the U.S. Senate. He had served as NCTC's deputy director since June 2012. Previously, as special assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism with the National Security Council (NSC) staff since 2007, he supported the president, the national security adviser, and homeland security adviser on counterterrorism policy and strategy. At NCTC from 2004 to 2007 he worked in senior policy and planning positions. From 2001 to 2004, as director for regional affairs in the NSC's Office of Combating Terrorism, he focused on Middle East and Southeast Asia counterterrorism issues post-September 11. Mr. Rasmussen began his public service in 1991 as a presidential management intern in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the Department of State and for more than a decade provided support to the Arab-Israeli peace process.
