Founder, National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET); Chairman and Co-Founder, Milken Family Foundation
Lowell Milken, international businessman and education reform visionary, launched the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching in 2005 to increase educator effectiveness. NIET's proven reforms impact over 200,000 teachers and 2.5 million students. As Milken Family Foundation chairman/co-founder, he developed the Milken Educator Awards as the nation's preeminent teacher recognition. The Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes drives student discovery of role models in history; 1.3 million students have participated. At Art Center College of Design, the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography sets global standards in typography and visual design. In business, Lowell chairs National Realty Trust as well as London-based Heron International, a worldwide force in property development. Graduating UC Berkeley summa cum laude, he received the Business School's Most Outstanding Student Award. UCLA School of Law, where he earned Order of the Coif and Law Review, has established the Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy.
