Jonathan Nelson
Founder and CEO, Providence Equity Partners

Jonathan Nelson is founder and CEO of Providence Equity Partners, a leading private equity firm focused on the media, communications, education and information sectors. The firm manages over $50 billion in commitments and has invested in over 160 companies since its inception in 1989. Mr. Nelson serves on the boards of Chernin Group, MLS Media and Univision. He has served on numerous Providence portfolio company boards, including Bresnan Communications, Eircom, Hulu, Language Line, MetroNet, VoiceStream, Warner Music Group and Western Wireless. Prior to founding Providence, he was a managing director of Narragansett Capital, where he specialized in private equity investments in cable television, broadcasting and publishing. Mr. Nelson received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Brown University. He is a trustee of Brown University, The Rockefeller University and Institute for Advanced Study. He is a member of the Board of Dean's Advisors at Harvard Business School and the board of the Newport Festivals Foundation.
