Speaker's Biography

Yascha Mounk

Author and Lecturer, Harvard University

Yascha Mounk has written widely about the global crisis of liberal democracy. A lecturer on government at Harvard, a fellow at the Transatlantic Academy at the German Marshall Fund, and a fellow in the Political Reform Program at New America, he is currently at work on his third book, which argues that liberal democracy is increasingly splitting into two new regime forms: illiberal democracy, or democracy without rights, and undemocratic liberalism, or rights without democracy. A weekly columnist for Slate and a monthly columnist for CNN, Yascha Mounk also writes regularly for the New York Times, Die Zeit, and other international newspapers and magazines.
