After serving over 39 years in the USAF, General Norty Schwartz has been president & CEO of BENS since 2013. BENS' mission is to provide business-driven solutions to the nation's most pressing security challenges, particularly in defense and homeland security. In 2008, General Schwartz became the 19th chief of staff of the USAF, responsible for 680,000 personnel and an annual budget of $120B. As chief, he enacted a number of innovations, including shifting emphasis from traditional aircraft to remotely piloted vehicle missions, strengthening execution and oversight of nuclear deterrence activities. Before becoming chief, he was the head of US Transportation Command, deputy commander of US Special Operations Command and the senior operations officer for all US Armed Forces. A graduate of the USAF Academy, General Schwartz earned a master's degree in business administration, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
