Slow progress in adding women to boards dominates the conversation on gender diversity in the corporate world. Much of the discussion is understandably pessimistic. Women hold only 19 percent of board positions in the U.S. and 30 percent in Europe. That said, several progressive companies are taking the lead, looking for female board members in new places and placing them in new ways.
