Rajeev Venkayya is president of the global vaccine business unit of Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Takeda's global vaccine business includes advanced vaccine candidates for norovirus and dengue. Previously, Venkayya was director of vaccine delivery at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where his responsibilities included the Global Polio Eradication Initiative and GAVI, along with an investment portfolio of about $500 million a year. Earlier, he worked at the White House developing policies to prevent and respond to bioterrorism and naturally occurring biological threats. Prior to that, he was on the faculty of the University of California, San Francisco and co-director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and director of the High-Risk Asthma Clinic at San Francisco General Hospital. He also studied the immunologic mechanisms of asthma on an NIH grant. Venkayya completed his undergraduate and medical school education in the six-year B.S./M.D. program at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine.
