Paul Sheard is executive vice president and chief economist of S&P Global. He spearheads the company's economic and market thought leadership and leads teams that provide macroeconomic forecasts used by Standard & Poor's analysts, conduct fixed income research and analyze credit ratings performance. Sheard chairs the S&P's Academic Council and is a member of the S&P's executive committee. Previously, he was chief economist at Nomura Securities and Lehman Brothers, and head of Japan Equity Investments and Japan Strategist at Baring Asset Management in Tokyo. He is a member of the Bretton Woods Committee and a former member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on the International Monetary System. He is the author or editor of several books and articles on the Japanese economy. His book "The Crisis of Main Bank Capitalism" won the Suntory-Gakugei Prize. He holds a bachelor's degree from Monash University in Australia and a master's of economics and a Ph.D. from Australian National University.
