Geoffrey Ling
Deputy Director, Defense Sciences Office, DARPA

Geoffrey Ling is deputy director of the Defense Sciences Office at DARPA, attending neuro critical-care physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and science division assistant director for medical innovation at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Ling recently retired from the Army Medical Corps after 27 years of service, which included combat tours to Afghanistan and Iraq. He has published more than 150 peer-review journal articles, reviews and book chapters, including the TBI chapter in Cecil's Textbook of Medicine, the VA-DoD Guidelines for Managing Mild TBI/Concussion, and the DoD Guidelines for Prehospital Management of Combat Related Head Injury. Ling has served on the NIH-NINDS Advisory Council, the executive board of the Neuro Critical Care Society, the NFL Head and Spine Injury committee and the NFLPA concussion committee. He received his B.A. from Washington University, his Ph.D. in pharmacology from Cornell University and his M.D. from Georgetown University.
