Scott Garrett is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New Jersey's 5th Congressional District. Since his election in 2002, Garrett, a Republican, has gained a reputation as a leading advocate of tax relief and pro-growth economic policies. He is a senior member of the House Budget Committee and a member of the House Financial Services Committee. He also serves as chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises, which oversees the Securities and Exchange Commission, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In addition, Garrett is founder and chairman of the Congressional Constitution Caucus, a forum for education on constitutional principles and discussion of the appropriate limits of congressional action. Before his election to Congress, Garrett served in the New Jersey General Assembly, becoming assistant majority leader. He earned a B.A. from Montclair State University and a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law-Camden.
