Chairman and CEO, EBX Group
Eike Batista is chairman and CEO of the EBX Group, a holding company for a number of subsidiary firms focused on mining, energy, oil and gas, logistics and offshore exploration. These ventures tap into the vast opportunities in Latin America, particularly in Brazil. They are currently investing US$15 billion from 2010 to 2012, and will invest approximately US$40 billion in the next 10 years. EBX companies have built ports, power plants and drilling operations, as well as hospitality and entertainment projects in Rio de Janeiro. Batista got his start dealing with pick-and-shovel miners in the Amazon region and gold traders at large centers in Brazil and Europe. He also launched the first mechanized alluvial gold plant in the Amazon region, created his own enterprise and became CEO of the Canadian company TVX Gold. Fluent in five languages and a champion powerboat racer, Batista graduated from the University of Aachen.
