Speaker's Biography

C. L. Max Nikias

Executive Vice President, Provost and President-Elect, University of Southern California

C. L. Max Nikias is Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Southern California. He will become USC's 11th president in August 2010. As USC's chief academic officer, he oversees a vast academic community, consisting of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, the Keck School of Medicine, and 16 professional schools as well as the divisions of student affairs, libraries, information technology services, student religious life and enrollment services. He was previously dean of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and is now the Malcolm R. Currie Chair in Technology and the Humanities. Nikias is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the recipient of the 2008 IEEE Simon Ramo Medal. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. from the State University of New York, Buffalo.
