Suzanne Topalian is Professor of Surgery and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Director of the Melanoma Program at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her research focuses on cancer immunology and immunotherapy. A physician-scientist, Topalian is also chief science officer of the Melanoma Research Alliance. Previously, she spent 21 years in the surgery branch of the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, first as a fellow and later a senior investigator. Topalian has published more than 100 research articles and reviews on cancer immunology. She is internationally recognized for this work, which provided a foundation for the translational development of immunotherapies for melanoma and other cancers and opened new avenues of scientific interest and clinical investigation in cancer immunotherapy. She received a B.A. from Wellesley College and an M.D. from Tufts University.
