Managing Partner, Asymmetry LLC
Alexander Friedman is the Founder and Managing Partner of Asymmetry LLC, a private investment company launched in March 2010. Previously, he was chief financial officer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where his duties included overseeing all financial matters, strategic planning, measurement and evaluation, and contracts. Friedman was behind the foundation's innovative use of its balance sheet to support program-related investments and managed its $400 million PRI fund. Friedman has also worked as an investment banker with Lazard and led corporate development at Medarex, a biotechnology company. He was a White House fellow and an assistant to the secretary of defense for special projects in the Clinton administration. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he serves on the boards of the Seattle Art Museum and the Access Fund. Friedman received a J.D. from Columbia Law School, an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, and a bachelor's degree from Princeton University.
