R. James Woolsey

Venture Partner, VantagePoint Venture Partners; Of Counsel, Goodwin Procter LLP; former Director, Central Intelligence Agency


R. James Woolsey is a Venture Partner with VantagePoint Venture Partners and Of Counsel at Goodwin Procter LLP, specializing in alternative energy and security issues. Woolsey has served in two Republican and two Democratic administrations, most recently as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. He was also vice president and an officer of Booz Allen Hamilton and a partner at Shea & Gardner (now Goodwin Procter). Woolsey is a frequent contributor to major publications and speaks occasionally on foreign affairs, defense, energy and intelligence. He serves on numerous boards and is now chairman of ExecutiveAction LLC; co-chairman of the Committee on the Present Danger; and chairman of the advisory boards of the Clean Fuels Foundation and the New Uses Council. Woolsey received a B.A. from Stanford University; an M.A. from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar; and an LL.B from Yale Law School, where he was managing editor of the Yale Law Journal.
