Governor, State of Hawaii
Linda Lingle is the Governor of Hawaii. When she took office in December 2002, her goals were to make state government more open, accountable and responsive. She was re-elected by the largest margin of victory in any gubernatorial race in state history, including winning all of Hawaii's 51 House precincts. Lingle continues to emphasize her mandate for state government to lead by example, particularly in the areas of innovation, renewable energy and education reform. Now in her final year in office, Lingle and her team are committed to completing the goals they laid out for the state, including promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education for students, through a comprehensive set of programs for scholastic robotics; increasing support for preschool, K-12 and higher education, including charter schools; and enacting a constitutional amendment to place the superintendent of schools under the governor's direct control.
