Deputy Governor, Bank of Israel
Zvi Eckstein is Deputy Governor of the Bank of Israel and a Professor of Economics at Tel Aviv University. He headed the inter-ministerial committee appointed by the Israeli government to formulate a policy regarding foreign workers, and he currently leads two other inter-ministerial committees — one for reviewing policy related to employment in Israel and the other for regularization, supervision and enforcement of policies regarding the employment of Palestinians and Jordanians in Israel. As a researcher, Eckstein specializes in macroeconomics, economic growth and demography, the economic history of the Jewish people, and issues related to Israel's economy. He is a fellow of the Econometric Society, the Institute for the Study of Labor and the Centre for Economic and Policy Research as well as an editor of the European Economic Review. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of Tel Aviv and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
