Chief Investment Officer, California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS)
Christopher Ailman is Chief Investment Officer of the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS), the second-largest pension fund in the nation. He joined CalSTRS in 2000, after managing the Washington State Investment Board and serving as chief investment officer of the Sacramento County Employees' Retirement System. In 2006 he became the first Anglo to receive the Distinguished Service Award for the advancement of Latinos in business by the New America Alliance. Ailman was also named the 2000 "CIO of the Year" by the Institute for Fiduciary Education and received the 2003 Richard L. Stoddard Award for outstanding contributions to the investment of public funds. He currently serves as a board member of the U.K.-based International Corporate Governance Network and the Pacific Pension Institute, and is co-chairman of the Milken Institute Global Capital Markets Advisory Council. Ailman received a bachelor's degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
