Josette Sheeran
Executive Director, United Nations World Food Programme

Josette Sheeran is Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme. She previously served as undersecretary for economic, energy and agricultural affairs at the U.S. Department of State, and as deputy U.S. trade representative; in the latter role, she focused on economic diplomacy to help developing nations advance toward self-sufficiency and prosperity. Sheeran has also been managing director of Starpoint Solutions, a leading Wall Street technology firm, and as president and CEO of Empower America, a Washington, D.C., think tank. In addition, she has served as managing editor of a major U.S. newspaper, served twice as a Pulitzer Prize juror and received the Press Award for Journalistic Achievement by the National Order of Women Legislators. Sheeran has served on the Washington advisory board of the Council on Foreign Relations and on the Washington boards of the Urban League and the United Negro College Fund.
