Chairman, Milken Institute; Chairman, FasterCures / The Center for Accelerating Medical Solutions
Fortune magazine called Mike Milken "The Man Who Changed Medicine" for his three decades of leading the effort to accelerate cures and improved treatments for all life-threatening diseases. In 1982, he formalized his previous philanthropy in the Milken Family Foundation, which has long been a leading force in supporting medical research and educational reform. He is also chairman of FasterCures, a Washington-based think tank that is working to remove barriers to progress in medical research. His philanthropic career paralleled his financial career, which is often said to have revolutionized and democratized modern capital markets, creating millions of jobs in more than 3,200 companies. Mike is an investor in many companies that help build human capital, including enterprises operating early childhood education centers, K-12 and post-secondary online courses, and lifelong learning. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Berkeley, and earned his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He and his wife, Lori, who celebrate their 40th anniversary this year, have three children and two grandchildren. See www.mikemilken.com.
