Speaker's Biography

Eleanor Gaines

Teacher, Grayhawk Elementary School

Elie Gaines is a Teacher at Grayhawk Elementary School in Scottsdale, Ariz. Her teaching experience spans 25 years in the public and private sectors. A 2004 Milken Educator Award recipient, she teaches first grade in the Paradise Valley Unified School District. She also serves on the school site council parent-teacher organization, and as the performance-based pay coordinator. Gaines has served at the local and state level promoting the development of academic standards and on the standards-setting committee for the American Board for the Certification of Teacher Excellence. She serves on advisory boards for the Arizona state superintendent of public instruction and the National Council on Teacher Quality. She is a national consultant for the nonprofit Core Knowledge Foundation. Gaines received degrees in early childhood and K-12 special education, and graduate degrees in K-8 elementary education and educational leadership.
