Bachi Karkaria is a Consulting Editor and Columnist for The Times of India, the world's largest-selling English broadsheet. As the ToI's national metro editor, she upgraded the coverage of India's fast-growing cities. She has created successful, reader-friendly newspapers and turned around moribund editions. Before that, as group editorial director at Mid-Day, she headed content and strategic planning for print, Internet and radio. Karkaria writes a satirical weekly column, "Erratica," in the ToI's Sunday edition. She is on the board of the India AIDS Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and on the advisory council of India's National AIDS Control Organization. She is the first Indian on the board of the World Editors Forum. Karkaria received the Mary Morgan-Hewitt Award for Lifetime Achievement in Media in 1994. She is a Jefferson Fellow from the East-West Center in Hawaii and a member of the International Women's Media Foundation. Karkaria is the author of Dare to Dream, the best-selling biography of M.S. Oberoi, India's path-breaking hotelier.
