About the Center for Strategic Philanthropy

The Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy (CSP) designs smart giving strategies to accelerate philanthropic goals and progress. It is focused on maximizing the return on philanthropic investment by ensuring that innovation used to address one social issue is translated to another, best practices and metrics guide new and existing giving programs, and resources are invested to optimize outcomes.

Position Overview

The Milken Institute is looking for a talented professional based in London to help CSP expand into Europe. In this role, the Director should successfully be able to:

  • Build and manage high-profile relationships with ultra-high-net-worth families, individual philanthropists, and foundations
  • Serve as liaison between donors and the CSP team throughout a process to help them to channel their philanthropy to maximize a return on their investment
  • Assess impact of philanthropic portfolios and alignment with priorities and legacy
  • Craft individual and family philanthropy strategies by determining areas of focus, defining social change goals, and identifying efficacy metrics
  • Administer a trusted, expert-informed review process to vet and prioritize funding opportunities
  • Create measureable milestones that reflect near and long-term objectives
  • Promote creative and well-informed giving decisions
  • Connect clients with like-minded philanthropists via the Milken Institute network


  • Experience in managing high-profile relationships
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience (experience in wealth advisory,  private banking, management consulting, or other professional service is a plus)
  • High intellectual capacity that can be, and has been, applied to learning new fields
  • High emotional intelligence and nimbleness in navigating new communities
  • Personal attitude that includes being outgoing, team-oriented, entrepreneurial, action-oriented, flexible, with a willingness to adapt to changing situations and have a good sense of humor
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid program planning and project management skills
