Associate Director, Event Programming – Finance and Economics

Location: Santa Monica, Calif.


Do you have a strong understanding of capital markets, the finance industry and the trends and developments shaping the investment world? Are you able to leverage a broad and diverse set of relationships with key finance industry executives and influencers? The Milken Institute events team is seeking an Associate Director for our Event Programing team with specific experience in strategic finance and economics outreach and relationship management.

About the successful candidate: You are energetic, ambitious and intellectually curious, with a strong event/content background in economics & finance. Whether on Wall Street or in Silicon Valley, you know the companies and the executives who are making things happen. You also have experience working with corporate event sponsors and stakeholders to create compelling and engaging curated events. And you bring with you an existing network of professional relationships that can add to the Institute’s strong connections to global financial, corporate, public policy, foundation and philanthropic leaders.

The Associate Director Event Programming and Outreach will:

  • Recruit influential finance and investment industry leaders to speak at Institute events
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key industry figures and senior executives
  • Work closely with a cross-functional Events team to ensure successful sponsorship and financial support of Institute events, both public and private
  • Research, develop and continually update an ongoing list of top speaker candidates
  • Ceaselessly refresh a list of compelling finance-industry topics to pitch internally for Institute events and roundtables
  • Make frequent use of telephone, email, and internet – and leverage a polished in-person presence – to broaden contacts and better understand market/industry developments
  • Attend and help produce Institute events and, while you’re at it, be a cheerful problem solver and team player
  • Maintain an abundant professional curiosity and unbridled positive energy
  • Report to the Executive Director of events


  • Demonstrated knowledge of and relationships with key players in banking, finance, venture capital, fintech, and other sectors of the financial industry
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a similar role with a global media company, a financial institution, or professional services firm
  • Deep understanding of financial markets, policy, regulations and best practices
  • A strong background in creating intelligent, creative and compelling content
  • You must be able to successfully manage Institute initiatives, events and programs that impact public policy
  • Strong relationships with numerous influential external stakeholders including business and academic leaders, politicians and administration officials, and other global policy leaders
